Match Report Against Wanderers
NTL Match - SRCoyotes vs Wantok Taniwhas
Date: Saturday 15 September 2007
Time: 1 pm
Venue: Turf City
NTL Round 1 Match 5
Result: 3-2 in Coyotes' favor
MVP: Ekhoo
Team Player: Qiao Ying
Playmaker: Jane Kwang
If ever there is a victory that worth its weight in gold, delivered in atrocious conditions through teamwork and hard work, it was probably the one SRCoyotes beat Wantok Taniwhas.
Wantok traditionally have the upper hand over SRC. According to the last NTL, Coyotes lost to Taniwhas, twice. However, this time, it’s different.
It was a remarkable match between two tough teams. Match started with the usual rugging ups and 6 touches attacks until Ekhoo broke through Taniwhas’ defense line, mere inches from getting touched by the opponents. That was when the first try came in for SRCoyotes and this brought up the confidence level of the team.
SRCoyotes’ confidence leveled up again when Karen saw a gap and created a 2 on 1 situation on the wing defense, allowing Eda to make a beautiful touchdown by the side line. The action continued when Jane K reacted quickly to a penalty, tapped the ball, caught the opponents offside and touched down.
Taniwhas were in no mood to roll over and hit back with one try of their own before the break. Half time score SRCoyotes 3 Taniwhas 1.
Taniwhas did not give up after the break. They made a couple of good runs and their dummy scoops were fast. However, our defense was furious. Every single coyote gave their best, not allowing any break-through. Even rookie Qiao Ying made a beautiful dive touch to cover her teammate’s ass.
However, if there is a ‘Best Defense’ award, it definitely goes to Captain Bubu. Equipped with superb vision and anticipation, Cap foresaw the opponent’s next move, dived before opponent could even catch hold of the ball and touched her just before she touched down.
In addition, I think the most important factor for our victory was the trust and support we gave to each other. Everyone was cheering by the sideline for every right decision made and encouraging each other even after every mistake. We are always there for each other. Encouragement level was 110%. And that’s what I called a ‘Team’.
Lastly, SRCoyotes played a very similar game last year against the Taniwhas and lost and I think it really shows how this team has grown to show the mental strength to emerge 3-2 victors against a fine side. There’s still a lot of rugby left though.
That is the end of this week’s match report.
Brought to you by Ekhoo.
‘What’s your profession?’ ‘Ah Woo! Ah woo! Ah woo!’ Way to go, Coyotes!
