NTL Week 7
theme: BUBBLES!

Mental skills workshop

Hey girls we're gearing towards the end of NTL. No im not celebrating yet. since u girls have the tendency to disappear after NTL. just a reminder of things that are on the list post NTL.

1. Coyotes Annual Awards Ceremony - will be held after the last day of NTL. everyone should be present cos der's an award for everyone.

2. SRC year end party - this is for everyone a div, b div and men. Again everyone to be present. (effort has been put into this. the least u can do if u're not involved in the planning is to turn up)

3. Beach touch - Since some of you have requested to start your own teams i'll oblige. But i wanna make sure that everyone who wants to be involved be involved and i dun want anybody to be left out. those are my wishes.

4. mental skills workshop - Now THIS is my pet project for you guys. THanks to all those who are responsible enough to get back to me. so far i haf recieved 5 yes and no replies to the rest. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF u get back to me on this. it is really important that everyone gets involved in this. reply to me personally on text or at reply at this blog for ur attendance.

Again please let me remind you that this workshop is free. usually it costs alot to engage someone to conduct this for a team. So if u want to improve on ur performance or just want to get more info on how to get out more from ur performance or... (u just blardy turn up cos i went to soo much trouble for u guys) u noe its good for u reply back asap. it'll be conducted during our training sessions up till nov. so it does not really get in the way of ur busy schedules.

Here are the topics that will be covered:

1. Personal Power
This topic focuses on the power within the individual to make decisions appropriately. Some sub-components of this topic include, Pain-to-Power Vocabulary, Application of method to strengthen this personal power, Identifying Internal Blocks and Internal Voices and Reframing Techniques. This topic focuses on the individual and their drive to do their best.

2. PERCEPTION
Understanding perceptual processes and the effects of perception on their performance as a team are primary focuses. This topic can also increase group cohesion and encourage team bonding.

3. GOAL-SETTING
Different theories such as Achievement-Motivation Theory and Expectancy Theory would be discussed. Types of Goals and other components of goal setting would be included. Through this topic, team members would be more informed about goal-settings and the principles involved. With a better understanding, the team members would be more inclined to practise this skill.

4. IMAGERY
This topic focuses on how visualisation can lead to better performance. Team members can gain a better understanding about the importance of mental training.

5. ATTENTIONAL CONTROL
This topic focuses on controlling attention. Theories that would help the athletes focus better, would be discussed. Better focus would mean a more accomplished training or game.

Other topics such as how learning occurs and self-talk would be included in some or all the topics mentioned above, to help explain the topics better.
All of these topics would utilise power point presentation and handouts. Some of them would require group work and activities that help illustrate the application of the skill better. In some cases, videos or music can be used to stimulate the participants and allow them to understand a topic better.
A detailed mapping of activities and notes for each topic would be prepared once the placement and the duration have been confirmed.

Cheers

GOOD luck to all coyotes for tomorrow's Game!!

immortality

When he was still a young man, Beethoven decided to compose a few improvisations on music by Pergolesi. He devoted months to this task and finally had the courage to publish it.
A critic wrote a whole-page review in a German newspaper in which he launched a ferocious attack on the music.
Beethoven, however, was quite unshaken by his comments. When his friends pressed him to respond to the critic, he merely said:
‘All I need to do is to carry on with my work. If the music I compose is as good as I think it is, then it will survive that journalist. If it has the depth I hope it has, it will survive the newspaper too. Should that ferocious attack on what I do ever be remembered in the future, it will only serve as an example of the imbecility of critics.’
Beethoven was absolutely right. Over a hundred years later, that same review was mentioned in a radio programme in São Paulo.

heh is abit late, bt just tot i post da above in response to certain interesting issues / person / hypocritical critic.

NTL Match - SRCoyotes vs Republic Poly A

NTL Round 1 Match 6

'When you lose, you're more motivated. When you win, you fail to see your mistakes and probably no one can tell you anything.' - tennis player, Venus Williams

The searing sun announced a warm afternoon of games. Players crowded under inadequate shade. Coyotes was scheduled for a 1pm match against RP (A). A tight game it was going to be, with both teams' standards ALMOST on par. However with Coyote's win against Wantoks the previous week, it was naturally intimidating. It was an incentive that the morale of the team was boosted up a few folds, but complacency got the better of them.

5 minutes into the game, Mag created a 2 on 1 situation after the usual ruck-up. With able support from JK , the first try came beautifully when our week's teamplayer made a dive for the try-line. With scrapes & scratches came screams & applaud from the sideline - this definitely gave Coyotes the drive to want more.

The rest of the game continued with much rivalry - each team trying to get the better of the other . By the end of the first half, the score remained stagnant: 1-0 in Coyotes' favour.

Second half kicked-off with a clash. RP (A) knew they were lagging behind by one try, and were consistently trying to break-even. Numerous attempts to dive-try were made by them, but none were successful. It wasn't helpful that Coyotes were giving in too many penalties at their try-line, many a times because players were hogging the line.

Meanwhile, subs for both teams were rolling fast, as the sun continues to exhaust their fitness.

Mere minutes to the end of the game, Coyotes were penalized at their try line again by ref Marli. A simple backdoor sub by RP (A) & miscalculations from Coyotes saw the delivery of another try. This time, cheers came from the other side of the field.

Before Coyotes could make a comeback, the whistle was sounded signalling the end of NTL Round 1 Match 6. The final score was 1-1. All in all, it was a good game between the two strong-headed teams.

Coyotes could have done much better than a draw. Our defence was vulnerable compared to match 5. Players were not shuffling fast enough. I feel that it's because we are confused as to what defence strategy was being applied. The only solution for this is to COME FOR TRAININGS!

In addition to that is our penalties. We wasted most of our second half defending at our try-line when we could be attacking! Acknowledgement should be given to the 'commander' of the defence line (usually centers). Apart from that, our attacks could be worked on, esp try-line move.

Nonetheless, we have our new shirts and we are all gay and happy (those who havent pay up please do!). :D

words from the coach

hi girls.

somewhere along the line we need to learn to pick ourselves up and go.

somewhere along the line we need to learn to take in the good with the bad

somewhere along the line we need to push ourselves to believe in what we have always believe in

somewhere along the line we might lose the meaning of the word 'team' but hold on to that blurred vision until u see a clear meaning. the meaning that made u decide to stay with us even if u knew the odds were against us.

somewhere along the line we should learn to accept our weaknesses and our strength and not push the expectations where it will never be met

somewhere along the line. I would have to learn all the things i haf just listed down.

from the start i am in coaching never to win. my objectives of coaching is to develop individual characters. to always push the outside their comfort zone and see how far they can go. and if they turn out good. i haf done my job. if not i'll keep pushing and pushing until they do. so if u find that u are pushed outside ur comfort zone (how u noe is when u tear during training) the decision is this, whether u wanna do something about it to be better and prove me wrong. or accept what i say and be like everyone else.

I would never doubt the capabilities of any players in this team. I am infected by a bout of positivies. my underlying belief is that no team is worst than the other. its the learning and working as unit that separates a team from the other.
I believe that no one one the team ever wants to let any one down.
i believe that no one is a shitty player u just haf to work harder.
i believe that even the worst of the teams (the underdogs) have a chance to win championships. if we all put our minds to it.

what brings most teams down is their mentality individually and as a team. mentaly if u bring u low self esteem to the team and the game. u will never improve. if u bring ur negativities to the philisophy of ur game u will never perform. and u're as good as gone

as a team player if u expect too much instead of not expecting at all will jeopardize the team spirit not only that it will definitely leave u frustrated and unfocused in the game. so u're as good as gone.

being in a team is simple, put in ur best. put all URSELF aside and just play the game. whatever u think u deserve is not important. its "we" not "i". and as much as we all say we understand it. do we actually realise the true meaning of it?

ever anyone ever said "oh no i am scared" instead of "i am scared but i dun care i will put in my best cos this is what this team needs"

or

say "i can't play with this team they can't support me" instead of "ok this team cant seem to complete my moves, something is wrong. maybe i can try something else to help them out"

i believe that human beings are selfish. Me included. but if u want to be better than humans. better than anyone u noe.... maybe u should start putting urself aside and start thinking about the people in the team. its not impossible. nothing is impossible. we proved it when we beat wantoks taniwha last sat.

So girls ...... lets take the good and the bad and lets live with it. where we need to go i duno. im taking the ride with you guys and see where we end up. will we end up at the place where we want to be. or we end up at a place where we never knew we could be. all i noe is that this next road will be darn exciting. :)

for now, its all up to each and everyone of you here in this team to decide where Coyotes will be. everyone has a choice cos remember no one is better than anyone no one is worst that anyone. we need each other. We Are A Team. Team Coyotes. AWooooo!

Are u with me?

training this week has been a low down. i wont say what the reason is... for those who turned up i thank u soo much for believing and being there it means a lot to me. for those who didn't i hope u join us in our campaign.

our campaign to be better than we were before. to be remembered as the team to look out for in in ntl. the journey has not ended girls it has just begun. and after this journey i expect that no one on this team will ever be the same again.

i see u at training.
